TUESDAY & THURSDAY JITNEY LEAGUE

In a Jitney, teams are randomly made up from those in attendance.  You play with different members each night and are assigned different positions from lead through to skip; the game is casual.  Typically one 12-end game is played each evening.

JITNEY DUTIES

Every member who signs up to participate in this league takes a turn at running the jitney on a night assigned by the league convenors.  If you cannot perform your duties on that particular night, please arrange to swap with someone and notify the convenors.  The schedule and required duties are detailed below.

DUTIES BEFORE THE GAME STARTS
  • Be at the Club by 6:15 pm
  • Open the gates, clubhouse and bowls room; Carl has the keys
  • Set up the ground sheets, mats and jacks.  On Tuesdays, play runs East-West; on Thursdays, play runs North-South unless instructed otherwise
  • Unlock the chains securing the bowl rakes — the key is in the Draw Room with a yellow tag marked “Rakes”
  • Have pencils and score cards available on the table outside for the Skips
  • Set up the recording sheet for the jitney (found in the Draw Room drawer); record the date as well as the first and last name of the member participating (there is a board with the member’s name on a tag; they are to give you the tag which you will later use to display the teams and sheet allocation)
  • Collect $2 from the member.  NOTE:  Guests may play for free on three occasions; after that, they must register to become a member and pay the $2 nightly fee.
  • Be ready to draw up teams and display the names/position using the Draw Board by 6:55 pm
WHILE THE JITNEY IS BEING PLAYED
  • Complete any unfinished paperwork
  • Deposit all funds collected as instructed by the Treasurer
  • Look up who is running the next Jitney and remind them of their upcoming duty
  • Monitor game progression and assist wherever needed
  • Turn on the green lights as necessary
UPON CONCLUSION OF THE JITNEY
  • Collect all score cards
  • Tally up total scores and announce the evening’s high score male, high score female, and good sport
  • Walk around the greens to ensure that rakes are locked, all equipment has been returned to the Bowls Room and no personal belongings were left behind
  • Turn off lights above the greens
  • Place completed score sheets back in the drawer
  • Ensure Clubhouse, Bowls Room and exterior gates are locked; if you leave before members are done socializing, ensure that someone will secure the premises in your stead.
